Crowns, Bridges, Inlays, Onlays

What to Expect:

  • Crowns and Bridges typically require 2 to 3 appointments to complete. The first appointment we prepare the tooth (teeth) and impressions are taken. A temporary crown is placed on your tooth (teeth).
  • Your anesthesia will wear off in approximately 1 to 3 hours after the procedure.
  • You may experience cold or heat sensitivity and some soreness on your tooth (teeth). This should subside after the placement of the permanent crown.
  • After the permanent restoration is placed, you may feel slight pressure for a few days. Also, the bite may feel different for a day or two. If the bite feels uneven or you feel discomfort while chewing 2-3 days after placement, call our office immediately. Delaying the necessary adjustments may damage the tooth permanently.

Things to do:

  • It is very important not to chew on the numb side until the anesthesia wears off. This will prevent biting your tongue, lip, etc.
  • Continue your normal brushing but be careful while flossing around the temporary (remove the floss gently from the side).
  • Avoid hard and chewy foods (such as ice, hard candy, gum). These are known to pull temporaries off the prepared tooth.
  • If your temporary crown becomes loose or comes off at any time, please call the office immediately. Your tooth can shift within a few hours if your temporary is missing, which can inhibit the placement of your permanent crown. You may also experience sensitivity if your temporary comes off.
